Broadband probs

My last post which was bordering on the daft turns out to be almost certainly right. A report this week says that so many people are using broadband on holiday now, especially with mobile devices that I could just have hit the nail on the head! Not used to being right so lets hope it doesn't go to my head! The sit on mower has been fixed and the nice young man who fixed it also said it wasn't my fault...a small part had come off in the long grass! Can't cope with to much of this.....but also after having lost several posts I have now downloaded and am using a new browser. Google chrome claims to always back up everything so hopefully thats that sorted too. I seem to be on a roll!

Net

I am having trouble with the net. I've worked out that the reason I am losing posts is that I have lost the internet connection between starting to write and finishing the post! Now I've worked that bit out it accounts for all sorts of other irritations...So why does it happen? I wish I knew but I do remember that something similiar has happened before and at the same time of the year. As Cornwall is full to bursting right now I wonder if there is a limit to how much broadband you can get? It seems weird but maybe once everyone else arrives and starts using the phone lines to tap into perhaps if there is one idle for a moment then it switches itself off! Ok I know it sounds balmy but there has to be some sort of explanation! Just because you are paranoid it doesn't mean no ones out to get you!

Scary

I am losing posts somewhere I now have at least three floating around in the either! Two I have sent from my ipad in the last days are gone....I just hope that someone somewhere has got them!
Todays was on the subject of my grass cutting... David having given up over the last couple of weeks suggested it was high time I started so today was my first lesson. Please bear in mind that our garden was a field not long ago so there is alot of it. Our cutter is huge, bright yellow and powerful...a big boys toy. I am not a big boy so I took it carefully....
I now see why so many plants are bent or leaning its quite hard not to knock them as you go. Suffice it say that I have cut the grass.....but the yellow peril is now sitting imobile. David says its not my fault it wont go but he is the kindest man in the world. We have sent for the big boys toy mender! Not quite sure when I'll be having another go.

Coughing

Oh happy days! We are now coughing in unison! We arrived back in the very early morning and started coughing in the car driving home. I can only believe that we picked up something gruesome from the flight!

We look very well. Both of us are very brown and look in rude health.

Sermon 2

I have two services tomorrow but only one sermon which is always good news. I seem to have lost most of this but as it was mostly about my wretched cough and my ability to kill off the village by coughing on them tomorrow then it's just as well.

Twurch of England

Its a daft crazy world we find ourselves in today . Not content with being in Facebook, for the last week I have experimented with twitter. Now this is a whole new ball game... You don't contact most people directly...you just post a comment and see if anyone picks it up and runs with it. Gradually people start to follow you and post remarks that you want to follow up. It's not as complicated as it sounds. Yesterday a whole new area opened up with the Twurch of England Twitter. It has bishops, churches, priests, curates and even Dioceses. My list of followers doubled over night. Most are very funny, not always intentionally. The whole thing is very interesting. There are the campaigners who are against almost everything but specially BP right now. The political ones are often vitriolic, particularly against the poor Condems! Lots of columnists join in and as you can only use 140 letters it has to be brief and concise, which is a wonderful exercise in economy. I am enjoying it so far!

Infection spreading

I would hate to think I started this but it's gathering pace. I am told it's rampant in the next village too so this morning at midweek communion I reverted back to all the measures we took to avoid swine flu.

Free coughs for all.

I did go out today! Having spent a weekend coughing and hacking what ever that means, I decided to share my bugs with the local clergy! We had an ecumenical lunch in the local pub. The non conformists are always good value on these occasions and today was no exception but the problem was the laughing. It set me off coughing. If next Sunday there is a lack of ministers around the place it may all be down to me. Ooops We did get some things organised...I am off to one of my favourite churches in August to cover someone away..the new Bishop who is now not so new, got alot of praise for his people skills on his recent trip to the Roseland. I'm glad I made the effort to get there I just hope all my colleagues survive the experience.

Coughing

Just as well I have a day off. If I'd been doing communion this morning they would all have it next week. Davids got it now. Living in this house at the moment is an exercise in senior citizenship. Crispins taking his tablets like a good boy. David and I are taking cocktails of anti cold and flu tablets. Personally I think a good whisky Mac does the trick better.
I have got a clergy lunch tomorrow. I wonder how many of us are fit to go?

Wheezing

My bad cold has now gone down to my chest. I can now produce an impressive wheeze which sounds more like an old organ than anything else. Come to think of it that's very appropriate.
I now have a free weekend. No sermon to write or deliver. Shame really. It could have sounded fairly musical. David has been given the news that he is going to be a great grandfather. Does that make me a step great grand mother? My own grandchildren take note. I am not yet ready to be a real one.

Vatican

Oh dear is all I can say about the pronouncement from the Vatican this morning. Saying that to ordain a woman is a sin equal to that of being a pedophile is a bit over the top. I have very good friends amongst the Roman clergy. One of them taught me during the year before my ordination sand I still use his wise words in many of my sermons. Another local priest shares services with me. Together we have married people and christened people. We get on well and it's apparent to our various flocks. It's such a shame to put the good men I know and trust in a defensive position.

St Swithins Day

It never rains but it pours. Hah! Not only is it pouring down but I have a very bad cold. So this is the day we had four visitors before lunch. They were all pleasant visitors but they saw me sneezing constantly and coughing for Britain. The rector and the church treasurer were easy to cope with. I had my wedding fees ready! My son was more difficult. He needed me to get him an email address on his iPhone. Should have been easy. It wasn't. I've got used to using the large print on the iPad and although we managed in the end it provided much angst and frustration. I've been let off the family service on Sunday so it wasn't all bad news... Now we can look forward to 40 days of rain. So be it Lord.

Dogs

Life has strange ironies. When Crispin was a puppy he used to watch me giving my old dog Major his tablets every day. He wanted them too. Major was on medication for the whole of his life. A very expensive habit! Crispin so far has only rarely had to take anything medicinal. Now he needs antibiotics and steroids. He takes them as to the manor born. He has now achieved the same important status as his brother. They go down with great aplomb. He's been waiting all his life for this. It's just 10 years since he and I moved to Cornwall. Let's hope we are both going on for another 10. Well a girl can dream!

Slightly quieter week

The good news from the vet is thatCrispin has not got cancer. He has got a severe skin problem and arthritic hips. We have now started on a new course of 20 days of antibiotic and steroids. If after that cyst is still growing it may have to be taken off. In the meanwhile he is now running from me when he sees me reaching for the ear drops. This tragically funny because he is now at the stage where I can run faster than he can!
I spent this morning tying up loose ends. In the process I realise that I have double booked several things this week. I can only plead advanced old age!

Rest day

After one of the busiest weeks of my life I am trying to get a day of peace and quiet. Ha! First I had to write the sermon. It was all sitting in my head so that wasn't a problem. Then my dog came home. The blessed Crispin is a shadow of himself. His wound is exposed since the hair around has gone. He is limping. But his joy at being home was unmistakable. At first he showed no interest in anything much but we have now ambled round the garden together. He has reclaimed his territory and all is well. I am sure that he's not in real pain but when he is I will not prolong life for my sake. We are not there yet but the clocks ticking.
The memorial service yesterday went very well with a packed church paying their respects. The wake at the sailing club was also good but gosh I am tired today. I just hope no ones down at church waiting to get married and I've forgotten it.

Swifts

When we got to church this morning all was quiet after yesterdays bustle with both a wedding and a christening. Suddenly in they swooped. They were in good voice too. The swifts soared up and down the church, sat on high beams and twittered. Yesterday the entire church had been mopped to prevent anyone landing in the droppings so we were not best pleased. They followed the service quite well until I got up to read the gospel. That did it. They left the building! I am not sure if it was my voice or the content but they then stayed out until the end when a visitor left the door open again. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
The funeral I am doing then is in a different church. Let's hope the swifts don't arrive there!

Changing

I had to change all of my details this morning. All the insurance for pet insurance was in the name of Sharples. The girl at the end of the line was helpful and very pleasant. It makes such a difference.
Today is a massive problem day which I am struggling to sort out. There is a wedding followed by a christening. That's not the problem. Half of the guests are Polish. That's not really the problem. It's the language barrier. The bride can only barely make her vows in English. I am sure she understands them so that's not the problem either. It's whether the God parents understand theirs. That's problem. The service could go on all afternoon if I am not careful. They are all lovely people and all of course Catholics. They have no female priests in their own country and their faces show confusion at best. Suspicion at worst. Please pray for me.

Today

Impossible to keep up with events today. The phone started ringing very early. That should have given me a clue. The problems are varied from getting the right stuff in next weeks notices to the fact that I seem not to have paid for my Christmas lobster! Trying to get all my ducks in a row with organists and baptism forms paled into insignificance with the latest news from the vet. Crispin may have two forms of cancer. One needs an immediate intervention. A kind way of putting that it has to be chopped out. The other form would need an internal operation. The vet agrees with me that he is too old for the serious one so it's back to praying again. We get the results of his tests in a few days.

Anniversary

This weekend is the fifth anniversary of my being priested. When I think how much I've done in those five years it is amazing so it was very fitting that I did a big wedding yesterday. It was a family I know well and it was good to have a baby I had christened as a very tiny flower girl coming down the aisle holding grandpa's hand. Today I've done two big services and then I collapsed in a heap. David took me out to lunch because the alternative was a cheese butty. I am still tired but I also know that I am a very lucky woman. Thank you God.

Home again

The usual chaos ensues after only three days away! Phone messages, funerals to arrange. Organists to consult, wedding certificates to get right and flower ladies to placate. Henley seems a long way away. Today's wedding is at 2 pm. Beam me up Scottie.
