Lectures on board

Speakers vary. A lot depends on the subject matter but on board ship there is the assumption that anyone being paid by Cunard to entertain us must be on top of his subject. Mostly they are but some are not. False starts, mumbling, rifling through pages of notes and the dreaded senior moment of not remembering a name have assailed our ears over the last weeks. Those of us of the preacher variety know all the pitfalls here and prepare accordingly. In theory.
Last week and this week we have attended quite a lot of lectures. All good but some stand out.
Obviously Dick Clement and Ian le Frenais are funny. Also they show clips of their TV shows which do help. The man talking about Brazil was interesting too plus some good gags.
We like the geography and history lectures for the most part but today we had a speaker who I will not name who read the whole thing with his head down. The mike picked up most of it but the ends of sentences were often missing! This was a shame because the ends we heard were excellent.
We have enjoyed two ex MPs and their recollections of past times. Very different perceptions here. Interesting to compare and contrast.
One was a Lib Dem , the other a high Tory. In the interests of balance can't we have a socialist now? Tony Ben? Denis Healey? Tony Blair. Dont all shout at once!
