Windy ridge!

Wind is the problem today!  After we bought this house almost 5 years ago someone asked us if we lived at Windy Ridge. This is  its local nick name....shame no one told us before we decided to buy!  There is always a bit of a breeze....we are the highest point on the Roseland I think so where ever the wind is coming from we get it.
In the first three years I planted fruit trees, apples, pears, plums, cherries etc. They are a glorious sight every Spring, and then the wind blows. Confetti covers the ground and the little trees bow before the wind.
This morning a walk around what we laughingly call the orchard reveals that not all is lost. Many of the buds are still tight so there's time for them to come to fruition.
The raspberry canes and gooseberry bushes are still not really up and running yet so I  hope this blow is not going to be a prolonged one.
We are trying to get a wind break established to stop the worst of it...the large established trees help in that but the frost in the winter has I think almost finished off our ancient palm. As it shelters  an olive tree and a couple of camelias  I am inclined to let it be till they've grown up a bit.
On a really black easterly, we lose almost everything standing but we only get those a couple of times a year.
Of course sods law being much in evidence right now this is the morning the men next door are on the roof taking down the scaffolding!  We are ready!  Steady the buffs!
