Allergic reactions.

I was sitting chatting to my children this afternoon and as I talked I realized I was scratching away at one leg. I apologized with the words...
"Its OK I am not lousy, it's just my eczema."
I then started sneezing..And before they went I did a convincing demonstration of someone on the verge about to choke.
It's the dammed allergy season again! For years I persuaded myself that my small patches of irritated skin were ring worm and therefor curable..but in my heart I knew I had got the same as all the rest of my family....I was allergic to everything .
My grandmother used to sit up in bed with her asthma spray wheezing away. My father used to sit quietly scratching his legs much as I do now. My daughter had her first asthma attack at 18 months old when I'd taken them into the country for the day.
So it obviously runs in families...
It was not good news for my son though to hear his mother bewailing her fate as he had also started scratching.
I am not complaining about this having this problem. When I think of some others people's ailments , a bit of itchy skin seems a very small price to pay for otherwise vigorous health..but I do wish I knew what caused it. And why it seems more prevalent today than it used to. Are we really wrecking our environment to the point of poisoning it ?
We are of this world us allergy sufferers. So why are some parts of it poisonous to us?
OK. I know it could be much worse...it's just very irritating in more ways than one!

As a fellow eczema sufferer along with allergic rhinitis and (now) very mild asthma, I really do sympathise.
As you say, on the scale of things, not the worst of complaints, but at times, oh boy, does it feel like it!
In addition to the skin reaction to almost everything I also attract biting/stinging insects as though there were no-one else on the planet.
After a life-time of useless injection, tablets which made me sleep as though hypnotised, and eye-drops which made my eyes run I appear to have settled into calmer waters and a careful regime of antihistamine 10 months of the year, together with nasal spray for about 8 months and constant moisturising of hands arms and legs is making for a more comfortable existence.
Perhaps some day a multi-millionaire will fund some real research. We can always pray.

I suffer from hayfever and psoriasis which came on in middle age and is a pestilence. Both flare up in the spring and again at harvest time.

I have permanent medication for the hayfever and steroid cream for the psoriasis. You just live with it as there does not seem to be an explanation or cure on the horizen for either.

I'm told that there are links, but science can do something about allergies if they can find the cause, but it's just to much hassle to wait around for treatments.

As you say, there are millions of others in a much worse state. These are minor afflictions and a nuisance, but not life threatening.

It sounds as though both of you are worse off than me so I'll stop complaining! Be nice though I agree if some proper research was done on the subject!
