A nudge.

Its been a very busy period. I've done lots of weddings, funerals and a christening.....plus the weather has been dire!  All the small bedding plants have been shunted in and out of the porch on a regular basis. They even brought with them some visitors!  I found the ants setting up a new home in the base of the lemon tree!
All this manic activity has left its toll....so the brief interlude on Saturday was wonderful......we met an old friend and his new partner and had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.....
I was touched to get an email from them   the following day which contains a poem I've never seen before...It really is very appropriate for how I was feeling yesterday.  The person who sent it called it a nudge...which it is....so for all those of you who need a nudge  this is it!

Love after Love
The time will come
When, with elation
You will greet yourself arriving
At your own door, in your own mirror
And each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
To itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
The photographs, the desperate notes,
Peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

I'd have to think about that one Jean. Loving oneself is not easy. Particularly when we, who after all, know ourselves better than anyone else (apart from God) feel we are not worthy of love.

Thanks for the reply you posted on my blog Jean. I know
it with my head but find it very difficult to believe in my heart.
Somehow my past transgressions seem always to be in the way.
My Iconographer friend Constantina is always telling me the same thing, that God loves us because of our sins, not despite them. Once we can accept that God doesn't make exceptions then we can begin to love ourselves.
Still trying!
