MOT Threats....

I got up early to take my car for its MOT. I have had my lovely little beetle since I was an ordinand....I chose it in a dark teal colour to go with the more sober life I was expecting to lead....ahem!
In years gone by the MOT was a source of massive anxiety.....would it pass? Would it cost a fortune to fix it?
One year I took my Ford Escort in to a garage I'd never used before....but it was close to the theatre where I spent most of my time!
I can't now remember why I was sitting in my car when the mechanic hoisted it up high whilst he looked underneath.
He looked at everything and then said it would have to stay there and he would need to do extensive work on various things....It was clearly going to cost me a fortune.
I said I would go home and talk to my husband about it....
I was still in the air and the conversation took on tones that were distinctly threatening.
He wanted me to agree to everything there and then....I would have to catch the bus home....
Feeling a little anxious I replied that I couldn't sanction so many things on my own...my husband had to be involved.....
The conversation went along these lines for a few  more moments...I was getting worried now...why was I up in the air?
I asked him to lower me down.....he just went on talking...
Finally after half an hour nearer my God than was comfortable he lowered me down....
Once on the ground I turned my engine on.....He shouted through the window that he would report me to the police for driving my car in an unroadworthy state.
He stood in front of me whilst I revved the car...and inched forward...
The situation had turned very nasty....I finally got away and went home to talk to my husband who first rang the police and then the MOT authority....
After several interviews the man had his MOT  facility  taken away..... not a happy experience for any of us...
Fingers crossed the local man up the road  is always helpful....

I've found that the best way is to put the car in for a full service at our local family run garage. They will either do it or tell me whether or not it's worth repairing. In which case, I scrap it and buy another elderly car. If it passes that test, I resubmit it for MOT and it passes.

I love that story and the ending - these beggers need the whistle blowing on them. Well done.
