Pentecost.

The dove has arrived. The Holy Spirit, the helper arrives at Pentecost....
Of course the Spirit is with us throughout the year, this is the day we remember this and give thanks.
The Spirit showers gifts upon us in abundance, to each according to his or her own.
Today's reading includes the words of Joel, am Old Testament prophet who clearly had the gifts in spades...and foretold the seeing of visions and the ability to prophesy....
"Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams..." How really wonderful to live in a time when old men dreaming dreams was a thing to celebrate!
This points to the presence of the Holy Spirit even in Old Testament times...
The pictorial representation of the spirit swooping low over the waters is glorious and appears in many wonderful paintings but for me the words of Gerard Manly Hopkins expresses the appearance of the spirit in all its glory in the poem, God's Grandeur.
"The Holy Ghost over the bent world broods
With warm breast and with...ah...bright wings.
