Travel security.

The news this morning that new ways of smuggling explosives through customs at airports are beng found is very depressing. Since nine eleven it has got steadily more difficult to get onto a plane....

Toothpaste, deodorants , shampoo have all to travel in suitcases and not in hand luggage. I have relinquished quite a lot of stuff over the years, particularly ouzo when I bought several bottles of the local brew in Majorca and had to put them all in the bin kindly provided at the airport unopened!

The body search has also got more and more invasive. All sorts of things can set off the alarm...David almost always set them off...we decided it was his hair gel at one stage but taking off his shoes, the studs were found to be the culprits!

On my last trip to America I had the most intimate body search...I asked the woman who'd done it if we were now engaged.....she had no sense of humour, just redoubled her efforts!

I set off the alarm again on my way back from Madeira a few days ago....they were fairly relaxed about it though I had to take off my jewellery. .....

We live in an age of terrorism sadly, where one set of people try to kill people with different views and aspirations...The Crusades started off the whole thing when it was deemed a Christian duty to go off to the Holy lands to kill the infidel...the newly minted Muslms....they have been fighting back ever since....

Religion has a lot to answer for....the inconvenience of travel is just a very minor subtext to the whole thing. Peace is an aspiration now for us all but the sooner we learn to love our neighbours as we are asked to do in the gospels the better....it's a small world we live in...and getting smaller...

"Love one another as I have loved you." Jesus words have no sub clauses....as Christians that's what we have to try to do....even when we are provoked and inconvenienced, we still have to try....those of different outlooks are still just people. They love, bring up families, work and talk to each other. Just people....
