Poem for a friend.

Back to work, though still doing a fraction of my previous work load I have been given another funeral this week....for the father of a friend.

Yesterday we talked the service through and agreed on hymns before sorting out the readings....

It was important for the family to reflect their fathers early life. He was a Scot.

I found a lovely poem by Rabbi Burns which I'd not come across before.

" Epitaph for a friend

An honest man here lies at rest.

The friend of man, the friend of truth,

The friend of age and guide of youth

Few hearts like his with virtue warmed

Few heads with knowledge so informed

If there's another world he lives in bliss

If there is none, he made the best of this. "

Fits the bill perfectly.
