Eye patched.

I got home safely thanks to a wonderful friend early in the afternoon. The procedure was prolonged. I was about half an hour on the table but awake and chatting throughout!

I would rather have been asleep!

It was quite painful at times and now at home it's still hurting. Dam it. It was much worse than I thought it would be ..I'm not sure why! But it did have to be done....it had grown since it was measured a couple of weeks ago....and advanced into the corner of the eye.

Home now wearing my dressing I am seeing through the glass darkly....I have poor eyesight to start with and the unaffected one is the worst eye so although I can get about and read and write a bit it's back to the audio books for me!

Later tomorrow I can take off the patch now covering the eye and indeed half the face...I have to have the stitches out in a couple of weeks.

I regret my wimpishness ....I should be making light of it all but after having had a hysterectomy years ago I found it much easier to sleep through the whole thing!

The surgeon was a very well informed Catholic young man who chatted to me about the Bible and the patron saint of Opthomologists! I told him about my friends in the Roman church so that bit was fine....he agreed that not allowing the ordination of women would set his church back decades! And we also agreed that the present Pope is very good news .

When I remove the patch the moment of revelation could be shocking but at least I know it was a necessity .

And hopefully stay cancer free!

Thank you all for your prayers!

Later

Early morning and I've taken off the dressing and put on the first antiseptic cream....

The pain subsided during the night and I look appalling but hopefully that's fairly temporary!

[*] continue. You will be bruised for a while, let alone the discomfort. But a good job that it was caught in time. And, you've got your good eye back as well :)

I'm amazed that you managed to write a blog post in the circumstances. May you heal fast and feel more back to normal soon.

So glad the worst is over Jean. I obviously couldn't/wouldn't say so before you had it done, but I would have been frankly terrified.
You are so many things. A wimp is not one of them.
