Angels in human form

An old friend rang me yesterday. The news was not good. A mutual friend was ill...diagnosed with cancer.

I rang her immediately to leave a message . When she rang me back much later I was told all her news and listened with a sickening feeling of déjà vu.

She was following a similar path trodden by my husband two years ago.

She had an appointment with the oncologist and was due to start chemo soon. I found myself giving advice...small details like parking for the centre David and I spent many hours at....

The conversation left me with a heartfelt need for prayer....

I had tried very hard not to bring David into the conversation but I knew that she knew that he had not survived the process she was about to start....

This conversation has stayed with me all night and once again brought me into the realms of fear of the very word....cancer.

I stressed that accepting all offers of lifts and companionship was vital...she lives on the North coast of Cornwall ...too far away for me to get there in time to be useful but she had already got help put in place..

The people who volunteered to drive her, to stay with her whilst she was being treated are nothing short of angels....my own people who drove me everyday are now enshrined in my heart as my saviours...

Today I thank God for those who turn up when they are needed as I pray for my friend...
