War escalates!

God forgive me because when I hear that the French are bombing Syria and other countries are also joining in at various times then my first reaction is joy....

"Good!" I think it's time we fought back...

And then I stop in my tracks....because indiscriminate bombing is what got us into this in the first place. What we, the British and the Americans did to Iraq has fuelled whole generations of militant blood thirsty young people intent on revenge .

War Escalates. That much is obvious! The need to stop it all now is also obvious before the entire planet descends into strife, bloody and terrible. There is no point in trying to reason with young militant Muslims intent on revenge for the greater glory of Allah...so why not just bomb them out of existence?

Because we are better than that surely?

Not all Muslims are in favour of these actions. Not all Christians want to retaliate with air strikes.

We have to now search for a common humanity...we are people. Refugees have to be fed. The poor sheltered, the sick nursed.

"Love one another as I have loved you." The extra commandment was never needed more than it is now...

Somehow we have to find a way through the horror, the bombing, the plight of those running away from war torn zones.

It's easy for me and most of you sitting in warm homes, watching world events on our televisions to wring our hands and wish the militants dead! Somehow the strength has to be found for prayer...to pray for common humanity...for the ability to feed the poor, heal the sick and to put our fractured world at the top of our personal agendas..

So many platitudes, so many harsh words spoken and not suppressed ...I fear for our race and for our planet when good friends of mine are counselling mass destruction....

Don't let us become a people of hatred Lord. Hear our prayer!
