Christian socialism.

Listening over the weekend to various politicians talking about all the changes happening since the general election... I have been surprised by some of the utterances...

The almost wiped out Lib Dems are pinning their hopes on disgruntled Labour voters. The Scots Nats are soundng very threatening to everyone...promising another vote in what was supposed to be a once in a lifetime move...

Those in the Labour Party who are horrified by the election of Jeremy Corbin are trying to hide the disappointments of their own ambitions...

The Conservatives so far have been fairly quiet but their conference has yet to happen.

The Greens and Ukippers are biding their time for the moment but what is fascinating is the sheer number of political opinions . All shades are now making up a wonderful rainbow of political views...anyone could be forgiven for being slightly bemused....

I am thinking back to my time in childhood when I listened to the politics of my grandfather whilst sitting on his moleskin clad knees. He was quite clear about where his ideals lay. He described himself as a Christian socialist...

I heard many a long discussion as a very small girl on this subject but I have never heard a politician today using this wonderful phrase....it covers all the ethical views as laid down by the early Christians...

It's probably how I would describe myself if pushed....it's a pity that more of today's politicians can't say it about themselves.....

He may not be a Christian, but I find myself in greater sympathy with Jeremy Corbyn's viewsand approach that any other political leader for many years.

The problem for Christian polticians is that they're hid bound by the secular agenda and government conformity. If they go against the declared policies of their parties, they're described as rebels. If they have the integrity to stand by their principles, they're consigned for ever to the back benches, where their voice is not heard, as the media seems to focus on the front benches. What we need is an effective coalition of Christians across all parties to speak up for Christian ethics and principles. A voice that will count, because it's cross party. There is supposedly a parliamentary grouping of Christian MP's, but they seem more inclined to work quietly in the background, rather than voice their ethical concerns loudly and jointly.
