RBS dividend?

I see that the Royal Bank of Scotland is going to pay a dividend this year. Wow!
It’s two pence per share which is not going to be wonderful but I suppose it depends how many shares you have.
I have a lot.
For many years David took his bank bonuses in shares rather than cash! He was confident that the dividends would be a very welcome source of income in our old age.
He died after only eighteen months of retirement so never actually experienced either the boom years or the fall .
I still hold those shares and in the early days of my priesthood the dividends bought me books, stoles, albs and cassocks. I was very glad to be in receipt of the huge dividends then paid.
I watched the banks collapse and it’s rescue by the government in horror and total disbelief, glad that my husband no longer could be affected by the desperate news coming in all too regularly.
I know that he and his old colleagues would be both amazed and wounded by the banks collapse...so today he would be rejoicing...it’s a start...a small one but very welcome as a symbol that at last his bank is recovering.
I am still in touch with one or two of his old colleagues...I imagine there will be rejoicing all round...
Two pence per share is a far cry from the glory days...but it’s a beginning ...a signal that things are returning to what was once normal.
A glass may be raised later.... ahem!
