Getting out and about!

It is very quiet outside. Having not gone far all week I feel I really must go somewhere today.
Next week old friends will arrive though thankfully not to stay with me. Once the first one appears on my doorstep it will get busy. So I’ve made this week quiet.
But yesterday I was amazed to find my gardener working away at the end of the garden.
He comes on Thursday afternoon one week and on Friday morning the following week. This week I had quite forgotten his arrival until I spotted his car parked behind my barn.
Oh dear!
I found enough money in cash to pay him and we had a laugh over a cup of tea later.
My memory is getting worse . I do forget things so now I write everything down.
Then I lose the bit of paper I write on!
It’s all an ageing process I know but this doesn’t help much.
A friend who is even older than me is coming to see me next week. Physically frail her mind is still sharp and my offer of going to the next village to save her the drive was turned down flat!
My diary has never been so essential.
Taking my car to the next village I will park and take a stroll along the harbour wall. I might even walk onto the beach avoiding the shop which sells beautiful pictures.
I hope not to be tempted.....but you never know! Onwards and upwards.....or words to that extent.

Living alone for you gives you peace and solitude, but those rude friends, disturb that, and io seems that you welcome them.

My SD currently living in a five bedroom house is about to downsize two a 2 bedroom flat as living. In his mid eighties he knows that independence, living alone, is becoming more difficult, and where he is going is 5 minutes walk from his beloved Cathedral and two minutes from the nearest parish church, which has a vibrant, younger congregation. So, he will be set for an interesting church life.

He has lived alone, since being widowed 18 years ago, but has frequent visitors, leads residential retreats and meets many for SD weekly. He often does pilgrimages to local and international places like Bec and Taize and leads a fulfilled life, and his family visit often.

It keeps me going as I grow older, that there is life after a first or even second retirement, and as I approach a deadline of 70 I perhaps might retire for a third time from ministry this time around. But my new, much younger incumbent has different idea's, and exciting as they are, I wonder how much some of them are really practical for a nearly retired, old Reader?

I will wait and see and will not rush into PTO just in case.
