On waking fairly early I realised the sun was up before me. It’s going to be another hot one. I have been sorting through wardrobes recently knowing that somewhere my clothes were hanging unused for years except on cruises.
The stuff I wear on board ship is very different from my everyday wear here...
This prolonged spell of wonderful weather has meant me pulling out clothes normally reserved for gadding about in...so yesterday when I drove to the village where I used to live I was not looking very priestlike. After wandering along the sea wall gazing out to sea, looking at the harbour where I kept my little boat I sat down with a large glass of wine which I sipped slowly whilst chatting to everyone going by. It’s a hard life!
But the topic of conversation most visited was the coming vote on who our next Prime Minister will be. I am startled yet again to find the expectation that I am bound to be one of those allowed to vote...
"Have you supported Boris or Hunt?" This question came fairly frequently as I sat outside the pub. Often it was said as a joke but it was clear that it was on a lot of people’s minds.
I replied that as long as Gove wasn’t on the ballot paper it didn’t really matter which got in...they were both Tory’s.
Several conversations ensued....people are interested...sitting outside a pub in sunshine chatting is not the normal place for political discussions....and to be fair it wasn’t politics being discussed , it was personalities. People are interested..
If the choice of the next PM gets so much conversation going then it obviously matters...but I do wish that the attempt to discredit both men was not quite so nasty. Little good humoured banter was on show yesterday.
Today the hot weather continues...and I’ve already been right round my garden...it’s all looking wonderful. And no...I have no vote for the next Prime Minister...but that hasn’t stopped a bit of praying earnestly... no prizes for guessing....

I suspect that some people think the Priests are Tory as in the old adage that the Church of England is the Tory Party at rest.
Most Priests that I know are anything but Tory and I am aware that you have firmly nailed your left wing flag to the mast. I have to say that being a socialist is a dirty word in Tory circles, but in most of the country, the opposite is the case.
Many people with socialist leanings are looking for moderate leadership, with an affinity towards the good of all, and sadly, neither of the major parties exhibit those traits. Labour has blotted its copy book by allowing a marxist into power and the extremists from momentum dominating the party, even threatening sitting labour MP's with deselection if they don't toe their party line.
I have said it before the socialist party for those peoples have to be Green, whose policies I generally agree with. I don't follow the lib dems who proved opportunist during the coalition with the Tories and have demonstrated by brexit that they can turn their coats at a whim. Their credentials as a central liberal party are damaged goods.
Who knows what will happen if a general election happens, as the right wing, populist party of Mr Farage are seeking to smash the two party system if they can. Lord help us?
I have voted Green and will probably go on doing it whilst it remains the only truly socialist party. I am dismayed by what’s happening in the Labour Party...it seems intent on no longer being a broad church. Since I have never lived in a place where a socialist stood a chance I have got used to voting for the person rather than the politics. So be it.
