Hard or soft?

I keep hearing words  about a hard Brexit!   Come on Britain!   Why on earth are we putting ourselves through all this angst?  None of our current leaders impress me at all. Dangerous recklessness versus simple apathy!   Nothing I hear about the results of this strange situation makes me feel any better. This morning headlines were particularly worrying.  Boris wants to disregard the Irish situation. He calls it an anti democratic back stop! Has he simply disregarded the amount of anxiety this sort of comment will produce? Has he forgotten why all the rules he wants to scrap were put there in the first place. We have had several years of relative peace in Ireland so why interfere now?

With every passing day it becomes more obvious that this is an exercise in promoting the ego , the strange determination to pull us out of Europe seems to be the determination of mainly one person. I suspect that many of those who started by encouraging the leaving of Europe may now be wondering if perhaps it’s all going too far, too fast.

I can’t remember a time when so many people are feeling desperate in the face of political will. That  we need a say again now we have started to realise the consequences of Brexit  seems obvious. The backstop is being labelled as undemocratic. What Boris means by that is that it’s getting in his way!

What can our PM gain from all this? Is it not his job to look after this country and all its residents. With every passing day it all seems to get worse. People are stocking up on things hard to come by in the future.  Do we need any of this? Boris has shrugged off all the anxieties being discussed daily.

Another vote is very clearly needed now the consequences of Brexit are being discussed daily.  I hope someone somewhere will get through all the bravado that gets worse every day!   And where is the official opposition?   Come on  chaps.  Start opposing!

I couldn't agree more.

We need a general election with Brexit on the ballot sheet, not a plain Yes or No, but with some real options for a way forward that protects the interest of the UK and the EU, particlarly Ireland, north and south.

The danger is of course that the Brexit Party will win seats and enter Parliament and be in coalition with the Tories - can you imagine Mr Farage as Deputy PM..... we will than be really on the downward spiral.

I am hoping that the EU will propose and alternative, but given that they'd be cutting their own throats and opening the door to more countries leaving, I can't see that happening any time soon.

I don't know what is worse, the lies and politics and power play going on or the prevarication of Labour over remain or leave. Mr Corbyn fancies being in No 10, so his ambition is at the forefront of his proposal for a vote of No Confidence and an interim PM (Him) and a General Election to decide Brexit. This would be political suicide for all of the parties because people will vote against any politician who is rabid about staying or leaving. I wouldn't vote for any of them.

Perhaps if we called a general election and than we all abstained from voting that might cause a constitutional crisis and bring in something different, like proportional representation, which is badly needed. This would force politics of consensus rather than conflict.

But the spectre of leaving without a deal looms large on the horizon so we can expect fireworks when Parliament comes back, as well as the courts being dragged into the discussion. Darn it, it seems we are destined for more of the same.
