I’ve had to turn my heating on! It was very chilly yesterday and I thought it was worth giving it a try...
After several failures in this department in past it years it seemed better to just get on with it......but it’s on and warming up nicely. This is a relief . Not just because I’m feeling a bit warmer but to know that it’s all working properly is wonderful after several failures in past years.
I am now at the age where cold effects me. I simply fold myself up and try not to move. Hot water bottles help. But right now there’s no need...I have a warm house...
Recently I’ve had people calling to talk about the folk who used to live here that I know nothing about. They then sent me several articles about the house and surroundings dating back to when it was a working dairy farm. I was able to tell them that my house contained walls from at least two other buildings and the result of that was a thick envelope through the post from them later , full of interesting information about its past inhabitants.
It was farmed until quite recently and I was able to confirm that everything growing out there owed a debt of gratitude to the cows. The trees have shot up...altogether I have put in 72 trees and shrubs...I am making my contribution to the oxygen levels...and it no longer looks like cow pasture though it does owe much to the previous inhabitants...some trees I put in as knee high saplings are now way over my head.
Having an ancient farmhouse in Cornwall makes me a very fortunate old woman especially when my heating comes on on the first cold day!
