Yesterday’s visit to see my doctor was simply routine..no problems, just to actually speak to each other once a year...I told him I was away for Christmas and he understood the reasons why I need to be away from here during the festive season. So I’m going...I think.
But the conversation with him reminded me of the problems I have encountered on previous years in crossing the Atlantic to get to New York. During the night I recalled the worst of these occasions when the queue to show our papers to the authorities in the large drafty shed in Brooklyn was so long that we all felt close to collapse by the time it was our turn.
Last year I had booked an outing which got me out much more quickly so today I will look at what is available. I do not need another long wait. But why have I only just remembered!
It is I think now time to actually to get some preliminary packing done...ball gowns are essential for this one...
All of my thoughts during the night have been on the nitty gritty involved in packing for a month away at Christmas. I must be daft!
This is definitely going to be my last Christmas cruise...us octogenarians really are not suited to hanging around in drafty halls....I just hope that next year I remember in time. If I’m even here next year... yesterday’s conversation with the doctor has reminded me of my advancing age. As though I needed a reminder with mirrors in every room!
I may sound depressed but actually I’m not...it is another big adventure up ahead...and one I’ll enjoy eventually...so today I will,start...very gently to get out my posh evening clothes which only come out once a year...so be it!

I am glad the your appointment was routine, albeit it might have been a memory test for him, actually knowing who you are, as you are virtually a stranger.
Glad that the Ball Gowns are going into the cases, wondering how many you actually have to take? 30 nights on boards could well equal 30 Ball Gowns. Do you have enough cases for them? or, do they all need ironing when you get on board?
I hope that all of your preparations go well, and that the vital underwear and night gowns actually make it into a case. As for the missing case, what might it have in it? Washing from the last cruise? Gifts purchased and forgotten about? Or just an amount of laundry that it was easier to forget and lose when returning from a months voyage?
And it will probably turn up the day you depart.....
