Storm!

After a delightful day of sun yesterday the storm now rages. It sounded bad before I got up to look out and it is. My plan for today was to go out to lunch with an old friend but I don’t think we will make it. The last time I tried to get to my car in this weather the wind flattened me against the wall. Just getting back to the house became a problem. It’s not a problem I need just now. The other worry though can be difficult. It’s the over head power line. I have got used to the flickering lights and the sudden loss of electricity when it’s at its worst. Then it’s the knowledge that I’m completely cut off at times.... However we have not yet arrived at that stage.. Needless to say I won’t be going to church . By lunch time though I will know what’s possible. I do have the dubious joy of being on a list somewhere. It’s a list of vulnerable old people. This usually produces a snort if I explain this. Vulnerable seems not to be quite the right description of me. So that’s alright. And it does give me some pleasure when the storm is at its worst to get a call from from someone out there checking that I’m alright...still alive anyway! So in the face of some very bad weather I will not even attempt to go out today. I might as well use the phone line whilst I still have it! I have become used to this over the years...it’s not a problem..I hope those are not famous last words!

It was bad here, but not bad enough to keep peeps away from Church. Despite high winds and driving rain. Some branches down from trees in the Church Grounds, but thankfully those close to roads or pavements were recently subjected to the attentions of a tree surgeon, who cut away any dead wood and felled two that were clearly diseased and liable to fall. We needed a faculty and planning permission to do this work, as all of the mature trees, most over 160 years old, have tree preservation orders on them.

The fun for me was to chase our council recycling bins down the garden several times. Having been emptied, they were too light to resist the winds supplications and took off for the garage.
