Home education.
Well I’m up, dressed and ready...But I have no idea if my cleaner will turn up. I haven’t seen her for three weeks but it doesnt really matter. One person living alone doesn’t make much mess. I’ve alreay walked round the garden which has never looked so lovely.
There’s no really good news coming over the air waves...it’s all bad. Kids not going to school might look great until you realise that someone has to look after them. On one of our house moves during my husbands time as a new bank manager I tried to teach my children at home. It was not a success. My attempts were greeted in sullen silence by reluctant children who much preferred playing daft games...without my supervision. The teacher pupil relationship is very different from the mother teacher one. In my case I gave up fairly quickly ....it was that or kill them! Or be killed ! So good luck to all those attempting to fill the educational gap. I was better at dog training who always did as they were told. But children tend to see their absence from school as an opportunity to be either daft or naughty...or a combination of both. So good luck to all those parents trying to teach their own children...one tip I will pass on. Find a really good book to read together...that usually gets them sitting down and listening. Use the book once you are into it as a bribe....they can have another chapter after they have finished their sums! It worked for me...most of the time. Good luck parents!

When I was young, living in a single parent household, absence from school sick or holiday was three children competing for attention with each other, as our father was normally at work during the week.
I won't say that we were well behaved, in those days, we didn't have a TV, only a radio and one newspaper a day. But we had the Library, and we visited often, changing books as we read them, not being able to afford a fine for late returns.
Friends coming over was a no, no, as we lived in a fourth floor flat in a council block, and any noise echoed loudly below, with someone banging on their ceiling and shouting.
These days, children have so many distractions that we didn't so the cry of I'm bored shouldn't be heard, there is so much out there to explore via the internet and of course their schooling as well. Learning with the aid of online resources provided by their schools should be simple and easy
My adult grandchildren are completing their studies online with resources provided by their Universities - both in the NHS, another is studying online for a media and arts degree. I suspect that screen eyes will be an issue, but time out being sensible should be built in.
Prayers continue for your health and wellbeing.
