Celebration.!
Today feels a bit like Christmas. I have a Tesco delivery booked! This is my normal way of shopping when we are not locked down. It’s the first one since all this started...I haven’t gone short of anything but I will be glad to see the familiar van in the courtyard. Whopeeee! However on another level I am dismayed by how many bottles of booze I have amassed during the last week. This is not a sign that I’m drinking too much...more that I have forgotten what I’ve ordered and so have ordered more! I have clearly been very careless...and a quick look at what to expect from Tesco reveals another stock of assorted of Scotches on their way. Oh dear! I really must not order anything else to drink for quite a long time! Today I will be cheering VE Day! Athough I was very young I knew it was a day of great joy..it was a corner turned for the better..At the time I heard the joy, the glee apparent all around whilst not really understanding it. So I’ll catch up with this today...heaven knows I have enough booze to celebrate with!
So far listening to the radio I am wondering what on earth our German friends are making of it all. The entire world has changed...but the joy and relief of no longer being at wat is definitely worth a good celebration!

I wish my brother in law Fred was still alive today. He had joined up in his late teens, giving up a place at Cambridge to do it and was sent to France towards the end of the war. There, in danger of capture he had been hidden and fed by a French family for months. After the war he returned every year to say thank you for saving his life. His accounts were often moving and sometimes funny...but I know where he would have chosen to spend today...
