Little ships of Dunkirk.
I almost missed a really important anniversary today. It was the Dunkirk rescue carried out by all the little ships going to rescue those who had been stranded. This story is well known now but I do have a tenuous sort of a link making it impossible to ignore..My husband had owned one of the little ships. Miss Wanda was a small cabin cruiser who took off several men who would have been killed by the advancing German Army. David loved the story and owning one of the little ships was of vital importance to him. He spent time and money repairing her and keeping her floating. He became president of the Little Ship society and there are pictures around the house of both the ship and himself. I still look at them regularly. They are still on the walls of what was his study. I know that yesterday would have been very special for him so I raised a glass and drunk a toast to both his memory and of Miss Wanda...I hope she’s still going. And that her new owners felt just as privileged as he did at maintaining her sea worthiness. The men who sailed those little ships were courageous heroes..who will never be forgotten. But neither will their ships...I haven’t heard from any of them for a while but I assume they are still going strong in our hearts at least. Miss Wanda!

Lovely to hear of David's link to Wanda and the Little Ships. I watched a program about it on BBC this morning. Brave men and not all of the little ships made it back.
