The visitors.

The glorious weather has brought out quite a lot of visitors to the village. I know this from my gardener. I took him out his snap and his money yesterday intending to put it on the table and go but a conversation began with the words..."Thank goodness your not wearing a mask." He was laughing...so instead of scuttling back inside I stayed six feet away whilst he ate and brought me news from the village. Apparently the people who are visiting, the second home owners are walking around the village wearing a large variety of masks...which has given the locals much amusement. "You got a mask?" He asked me from a safe six feet away...I shook my head...I’m not planning to go down there....yet. Eventually I will have to go down but right now I am in no hurry...
I have a supermarket delivery booked soon...I have no need or wish to drive the ten miles or so to the village. Up here I am isolated...we have visitors next door but they are keeping their distance so in theory I am perfectly safe...and not at all lonely. The phone keeps me in touch with friends...and I am very touched by people ringing me to ask if I need anything... I don’t but it’s good to be asked... Meanwhile the visitors arrive intent on partying apparently...with little or no thought to the residents...so restaurants and some hotels are staying resolutely closed. This is a dilemma. We like our visitors mostly...many of us were once visitors ourselves...but in this strange period of shutting ourselves off from other people the risk of infection being brought in is apparently always on our collective minds. So staying close to home seems like the best idea...for the moment.

I suspect that the Dukedom of Cornwall is a little miffed that they are not self governing like Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Grockles coming in from places where infection is rife, must upset everyone.

We wear masks when we go shopping or to the Chemist for repeat meds, and I wear gloves when I go to the local shops as well. The advice is to do so to reduce the chances of catching the virus from things we touch when our or from the tiny droplets emitting from people's mouths, hence the distancing requirement as well.

Not sure whether I would find it less reason to wear them, just because I was in beautiful Cornwall - the infection is no respecter of persons or place, and I would continue to be alert to the risks, whatever was happening.

Whether in Cornwall or Timbuktu anyone can potentially catch or spread the virus!
