Leading us?

It is inevitable I suppose that during this period of pandemic our leaders feel responsible for making the rules we have to live by. This is very hard just now. Donald Trump is not Roosevelt . Boris Johnson is not Churchill. They are leaders during a time of uncertainty and shortages. They both dearly wanted their jobs...and clearly have to go on with whatever the pandemic throws at them. We are told that Boris always wanted to be the Prime Minister but I imagine he never foresaw these circumstances. Yesterday he was keen to point out that he is doing his best by his new baby. He’s helping with the nappies and the feeding we are told. Admirable indeed but not really Churchillian. I feel very sorry for both world leaders currently trying to look as though they are in charge of what is happening when actually the present situation is clearly getting the better of both of them. it’s hard to imagine a worse combination to deal with this virus. Boris wants to put his arms around us...which is code for he wants us to love him back, to believe that all his ideas for running the country are in place for our own good and that he loves us really. Running my mind over who else could now be in charge it’s hard to find any present politician capable of dealing with the present situation. My views on Boris are coloured by the fact that his advisor is the man who broke all his own rules at the start of all this. Boris seems to need Domenic Cummings. So who is really running the country? Conservative MPs are said to be worried by much of this....and I think they are right to be concerned. I am!
