Damp day!

It was lovely seeing old friends yesterday...we go back about forty years and right at the beginning the children were young...so now, chatting to middle aged people it’s possible to mentally chart their progress through life. Going to college, leaving and finding their jobs, marrying, becoming parents, they are forty years on from the start of our relationship. They know quite a lot about me obviously and are still astounded by my ordination late in life. Usually by this time they are out at sea , sailing various boats but not this year. It’s their first trip down here this year and at this point of the season there seems no point in getting boats into the water at a time when they would have to come out soon. Usually we all go out together in the evening to eat at various pubs and hotels but not this year....everything is different this year...and very odd. Today is damp outside...not even good walking weather so I have no idea what they will find to do...but no plans have been made...I am just staying put for the time being...which is not a problem because I’m not on holiday! I can’t feed them all and to be fair they wouldn’t expect it...so over the next few days they will come and go...and that’s fine...keeping my head down is easy....I’ve been doing it for years! But it is lovely to see them again....and some of the pubs are now open!

I am glad that you had a memorable visit yesterday and that the visitors are observing the niceties and not inflicting themselves on you overly much.

We had a visit yesterday from our Family Solicitor, who also happens to be an old friend and Military Colleague from the TA over thirty years ago. Her spouse who came with her is also Ex-Military, so we had a lot to talk about, as well as us both signing new wills. She hadn't seen our wedding photographs, nor any pictures of us together in Uniform, which we gladly shared. I suspect nostalgia was in the air, because Jen knew her before she was commissioned and had known her as a recruit that she trained when she was a JNCO recruit trainer.

I suspect that people we've known for years have much to share of the lives in between meetings. We certainly do.
