Virus winning?

I am late blogging this morning as I had to get over to the next village surgery very early.... only to hand in various samples of several things that will remain a mystery...to me as well as to you. Suffice it to say the roads were very empty thankfully and all I hope is well...for the moment. I waved at various people along the way but the traffic was very light .... you tend to forget how few people actually live here after driving through crowds of holiday makers. Of course this is only a momentary lull. The week before Christmas will bring in as many people as in the summer....all those with second homes often arrive for Christmas and of course we are very glad of the great congregations in church...except that this year we cant get the extras in.... some churches have had tickets issued..to make sure that locals can attend various services...and thats another first. We have always enjoyed packed services singing the carols with gusto...but that is looking very unlikely this year which is a shame. Everything all over the world it seems has been complicated by this attacking virus...nothing is actually normal anywhere we are told....so Ok..if we are all in it together we will cope...probably..possibly... who knows? I certainly dont!

We are doing tickets for midnight mass, but not for other services. As the Carol Service will be on line and there will be a streamed 10 am on Christmas Day. We have a 10 am on Christmas Eve (BCP) where I will preach on the Benidictus which is the Gospel reading. And people who do Morning Prayer will be very familiar with.

This will be the strangest Christmas ever since I became an Anglican, I have been so used to end to end services and working on all of them. When I was in Canterbury Diocese with a five church parish there would be five services on Christmas Day at 8 am 10 am or 11 am, using retired priests or priests from the Diocese to cover. I would run from one to another as I was normally doing prayers. And considering I lived 54 miles away. With a Carol service in the evening, midnight mass and three on Christmas Day, than a drive home, I got home in time for a Christmas dinner at 2 pm. And than conked out for a few hours nap. At least being in a single local church now, things are a bit easier.
