An ugly chimney!
No banging! There are no men out there! This is a huge relief after a week of noise! So I have walked around the garden in peace and gazed up at the huge ugly chimney they have left me with. I tried to stop them when I realised what they were doing but they had had their instructions and just carried on. So who was directjing them from afar? Well of course the men lost no time in telling me. So I now have a chimney...an ugly one , that I didnt want or need...Next week the work continues I suppose...another week of noise and dust...Oddly this has kept me strong with sheer bloody minded determination. .....But I must try to telax over the weekend. Tesco delivered a huge amount of food and drink last night. I managed to get the cold stuff into the fridge but the rest is sitting waiting for me in the kiitchen. I did not need all this just now but at least I can eat and drink for another couple of weeks whilst I gaze upwads at the monstrus carbuncle sitting on the house!

I wonder how it is, that you do not know who these builders are and why they are not taking your instructions, being as you said the Insurance company would not pay and that you are having to. Surely, they should listen to you and take your instructions. I do feel so sorry for all
you are going through.
Jean, this continues to sound like a nightmare for you. Is there no one locally you can trust who can find a copy of the contract for the work, which you must have surely agreed to?
Perhaps someone from your church can chat to you and if the builders are local could speak to them on your behalf???
I find it invidious that the builders are able to blithely do things that you don't want or need. Our chimneys are being rebuilt, exactly as the were when the house was erected in 1893. We are in a conservation area and are obliged to keep our Victorian Terrace exactly as they were when the conservation area was brought in in the 1990's, and we have had battles over that with the planners over the year. When we moved in, we erected a porch at the front, which has full building consent within permitted development rights, when they introduced the conservation area, they tried to make us take it down. But we won that Battle, as they have given consent at the outset, and we had kept the documents, while they had managed to lose theirs. Perhaps you local authority planners should be consulted, as they have the power to order the builders to comply with their local rules, and the addition of a structure which affects the look of your former farm house might well breach those regulations.
