Anglicans aboard.

Another day on board and some surprises. Not least the inclusion of an Anglian service in the daily events. Of course I had to go. David escorted me to the right room and left. Sensible man. The service was taken by a man for whom it was clearly an ego trip. He preached. He did the longest Intercessions ever. He sang a solo! He seemed affronted when I offered to help with the distribution. He was all in black , wearing a clerical suit, shirt and dog collar and had brought service sheets with him even though he was a fellow passenger. At the end two other priests came out of the woodwork and he was obviously not pleased to see them.
Priest are strange creatures. We get territorial very easily and wo
betide anyone muscling in on our territory. This came as a massive shock during my first year in the church.
It was further reinforced when I had an interregnum to run and the retired priest of the parish became a bad tempered prima donna before my eyes. Why do we do it? It can only be that we actually believe we can do it all better than anyone else! Having encountered it very early in my church career I have always tried not to fit into the same trap but I can't claim to have always succeeded. But I try Lord, I try.

I recognise even from my limited experience, your unlovely all-singing, all-dancing on board priest. He is not all that rare a specimen. Just for the record, did he in fact allow you to help with the distribution? I'm guessing not!
Good to see you are feeling well enough again to at least make the attempt.
