New year musings

I suppose its inevitable that on any New Years Day we should look back at our year and see how it all went. Having told my husband that I needed more exercise I have chugged around the fields three times talking to myself!  Secure in the knowledge that no one can hear me I have reviewed all those couples I've married. One couple lasted just 5 months before ringing me to tell me it had failed. I pray the rest are all fine. I've thought about all the babies I've christened this year and all the people I've buried.  Many cards have come from the families I've supported in various ways and I  pray that they are all safe and happy.
Then my mind took me back through the years.....old friends , lovers, teachers, husband...I seem to have out lived an awful lot of people.
And then I got to David. My dear old boy was an unexpected gift from God in both our old ages. We have had our fifth wedding anniversary this year and know just how lucky we are. He is the dearest, kindest man I have ever known and helps me in ways both large and small that no one has ever done for me before. This morning for instance, there he was doing the ironing when I was writing the sermon.
Whilst we are both in reasonable health we have to take advantage of our ability to move without pain by taking holidays in the sun.  We reckon this will help to keep us reasonable healthy for as long as is possible. So off we go again this week....the chances of our being packed and ready to go seem very small right now but we will give it our best shot!   Happy New year to everyone!
