Politician palms

We saw many plantations yesterday. They were all much the same. A large luxurious house surrounded by tall palms. These palms we were informed had practical uses. When they discovered that growing sugar cane was a good economic proposition someone had to work them. Slaves were imported from Africa and conditions could be hard. They had to have landmarks to get them home after a days work in the fields so the palms were planted.
Now the palms are very tall and have acquired a new name. They are called politician palms. They don't do much, are tall and thin and showy and there's nothing up top!
