Horrors in the jungle!

Watching the television is for me an absolute essential. I don't have a newspaper delivered up here, miles from anywhere...so I listen to the radio a lot but at night I do watch things on the TV.
My viewing choices are often a little eccentric as I browse through various choices because I have no Radio Times either....I often realise that I've missed good things because of it.
Last night I watched the celebrities in the jungle program.
Dear Lord when did we get so desperate for TV ratings that people are willing to put themselves through actual horrors in order to get food? The whole ethos of this program seems to be to keep their celebs so hungry that they will be willing to put up with truly revolting situations in order to get some decent food.
Last night two of them lay underground whilst thousands of insects, snakes, crocodiles , rats and crabs etc were poured over them. Desperate to win food for themselves and other team members they lay passive as critters crawled over them!
Come on......is this entertainment?
It's horridness was then surpassed by them having to pass things to each other such things as bulls balls by using their mouths!
How much lower can this program get?
I am willing to assume that this regime has dumbed down their brains...keeping a clear head under these circumstances must be hard but last night one of them asked if there had ever been a female Prime minister!
It's unlikely that I'll ever watch it again though you never know....curiosity as to how the celebrities are coping with the horrors might just get me there...
And that is obviously the point! People used to stand to watch hangings. This is in the same mould. Civilisation?

This is a 'reality' show, where failing celebrities vie for publicity, most of them, vying for our attention, hoping for a new career break of some kind.

I don't understand their motivation, nor their mind state, that draws them into such a horrific show, which pits personalities against one another and vies to create the conditions for in-fighting and argument.

But, you have to admit, that the tensions which arise, make for entertainment.
