The fall out from yesterday has left me a much wiser woman but I am very cross with myself!
Cunard gave me a free phone call to talk to my bank. They looked into the amounts on my my Visa card....altogether the charming young man from yesterday had taken over eight hundred pounds from my account.
The card company were able to recover that money they said but asked me to check my card regularly over the next day or two.
They wanted to cancel the card but I would then have been unable to pay Cunard at the end of the cruise.
Oh dear....I have learned a lot over the last two days...but would sooner have stayed in blissful ignorance.
The worst thing are my feelings of total inadequacy.
How could I have been so stupid?
All too easily I am afraid...
I have to check my account every day...and today I am not leaving the ship. We are in Tenerife. But it's grey...yesterday's sun is gone.
So far so good for my credit card problem I think....but I shall not be buying anything else using my debit card for quite a while I have decided. A nice quiet day in seems the best bet.....arghhhhh!

I never use my debit card Jean. I have one of my credit cards with no access to my bank accounts. I use it with PayPal.
I am aware.... although not rich there is quite a lot in my current account. I guard it. Credit cards much safer Jean just use your debit card when you know you are safe. Xx
I'm glad that you were able to get through to the bank, but lessons hard learned for you.
I'm never sure about such places, paying by card does seem extremely dodgy. When we were last abroad, we used our cards in bank cash machines, and paid for everything in Euro's. It was a pain, but we avoided any scams that might have happened. Flourishing a card has become second nature to us in the UK, with the Banks encouraging it - perhaps the cashless society might be further away given the amount of card fraud that happens daily.
