Over the last week demands for money have proliferated. I suppose we are nearing years end...the financial year .
I am not ungenerous... I give money on a monthly basis to several different groups...every so often in the face of disaster I send money to who ever is looking after the affected.
But they are all my choice.....some of them are the things my husband held dear.
I will continue to support all his dearly loved charities.
My own choices do vary from time to time. But I seldom just stop unless something bad has happened...
But everything I give I give gladly, conscious that I am a fortunate woman to be able to do it.
So when I get emails urging me to give more and more and telling a sad story in doing so they never have the desired effect. I just snarl at the mail which is not the effect they are looking for.
Indeed occasionally I have cancelled the whole thing if the tone of the demand is offensive...and some are...
So please, various charities or organisations such as the children and animal ones stop sending me heart rending pictures of grief accompanied by yet another demand for money.
It has the opposite effect.

Those charities who are continuing to harass you for money are actually breaching the Charity Commission guide lines.
Any charity that asks me in a polite-aggressive way gets short shrift. I choose to support first my own Parish Church and one or two Christian Charities such as Christian Aid, Tear Fund and the Childrens Society. And my old Regimental Charities that support Veterans along with SSAFA who are a tri-service charity for veterans, serving personnel and their families.
I don't like being chased for more, because the reality is that I can't afford to give more. My spouse also supports her own charity interests in Animal Welfare, and she rations what she gives, because she is now a Pensioner as well as me, and no longer has the income flow she enjoyed when working full time.
Charities who are aggressive are their own worst enemies. One that I have difficulties is Greenpeace, who bombarded me with mail and emails, until i complained and told them that I would report them to the Charity Commission if they continued.
Yes, I am interested in Green matters, but not to the exclusion of the many other concerns that deserve support.
I’m in complete agreement with you, I tend to give to small charities, especially those with no paid or hardly any paid staff especially where there is a link to our family, also support our local hospices. All donations are gift aided.
The pen, photos and appeal from Battersea dogs and cats went into the recycling, if I ration my giving people come first.
