Survival!

I am being taken out for lunch today by a very old friend. Food will be followed by a long beach walk. I have been warned to wear suitable shoes.....
A certain feeling of relief has coloured everything we’ve done or said over the weekend.
My gardener turned up yesterday to put back everything he’d stored in the summer house on the worst day of the storm.
He had kept everything safe but one item , carefully propped between my wheely bin and a chair showed the strength of the storm.
A very large slate tile had been blown off the roof.
We stood and gazed upwards. He had identified where it had been behind a chimney stack.
The miracle is that it’s intact, in very good condition in fact.
So tomorrow my first phone call will be to the young man who will go on the roof to replace it!
Today is very still so I’m hoping it will stay that way.
People here are mostly counting their blessings. Surviving the worst storm in living memory has led to many tales of strength and survival.
Getting my roof fixed has to be my first job next week but today feels almost like a celebration....being driven to a beautiful hotel for lunch is a treat after a very stressful few days.
And tomorrow I’ll try to get my car moving. I have a funeral next week!
Back to normal then...but with a better awareness that this sub tropical peninsula has survived a real danger...thank you God.

Glad that you have survived the storm, with just one slate of your roof. I have surveyed ours and can't see any damage, but I don't believe that our wind was as bad as yours. Hopefully, you will be sorted in no time.
