Art mirroring life? The news is full of horror...cruelty to children, torture victims, celebrities living lives behind closed doors that the press highlight with joy .
A quick flick through the morning news reveals death and destruction.
There doesn’t seem much good news most days.
What grabbed my attention mostly this morning is the Coronation Street intention to "highlight" male rape!
The recent story line of Phelan killing several people has just been horrid.
Holding prisoners in a basement, whilst being a good husband to his unsuspecting wife just made me squirm.
I should stop watching it but the soap has been part of my life for far too many years.
If Art copies life then I suppose it’s alright because the daily headlines are just horrid. But what if the awful news of killing, starving and families living desperate lives of total misery is a true real life reflection?
Do these horror stories included in "family viewing" programs cause some people to do dreadful things or are they just a true reflection of what’s happening out in the world?
I don’t know the answer to any of that but I pray that the violence and horror seen nightly on our screens could be replaced by those showing love, generosity of sprit and beauty.
The need to keep up viewing figures is responsible for much of this so if we just didn’t watch the horror unfolding nightly we could hopefully make the program makers think again.
And pray...I can’t remember a time when the need for prayer was so desperate.

Pleased that we never watch any of the Soaps, just bored rigid by many of them and overload of killing and cruelty. Story lines with a social aspect always appear to us to be artificial and full of ambiguity, which often doesn't portray the real suffering of so many victims in real life.
They many believe that they're doing a good job, but the drama might be regarded as training manuals for violence for those susceptible and unable to tell the difference between reality and onscreen violence.
The same goes for many modern films. Some that win awards are worthy, but many others are just excuses for violence and misery to be portrayed for our consumption.
I might be a prude, but there is enough violence in the world, without it being delivered to our screens day in, day out.
