Gun culture.

I received a very odd email yesterday. It was from USCO....who ever that might be.
It offered me"1 Multi-State Gun Permit. US Concealed on line."
The blurb ran. "Join 16,000,000 US Citizens in this exclusive Group."
It then offered me a free test ..10 questions only
You can take the test on line ...
It ends........ it’s never been as simple as this, no classroom, no enrolment fees and no gun range. This simple on line test could qualify you for the multi state permit everyone is rushing to get certified for.

I didn’t take the test. But...
I find this extremely scary. It’s not the first email I’ve had presuming me to be an American citizen....that I can live with... even when the job I’m being offered is an office cleaner but it’s the ease with which a gun can be bought with only the most minimal of licenses.
This really can’t be as simple as they are making it sound to go out to buy a gun.
I shudder to think how many guns already exist in US homes...and I have still the memory of being shown a neat little revolver tucked into a pretty handbag on one of my US trips.
The ability to buy a weapon to carry "for safety" does not convince me that it makes the carrier safer...
I will remember though not to walk around New York with one hand in my pocket the next time I’m in America.
I am very glad we don’t have this gun culture here....yet!
