Every so often I hear the dreaded words...."Football World Cup"
I gather it’s on this summer.
In the past I have spent far too many hours protesting to both my son and husbands.....It simply took over TV time every time it was on.
My sons obsession with this ritual Masculinity was always very trying...
The years we played various games with Germany and then actually beat them were years of hysterical shouting and screaming crowned by the glory that was winning by beating an old adversary...I will not go into the years we lost but hankies were kept ready!
I have led various rebellions at times.
The year after my first husband had retired and we were touring with our caravan remains in my mind.
Right here in Cornwall I led a female rebellion, organised from the girls shower house. On match nights us females met whilst the men screamed at the TV and we shared our talents, hairdressers cut hair, make up was experimented with..
Fashion was attempted which was not easy from a caravan.we must have been amazing sights sometimes....
Now none of this applies. There is no one hogging my TV. No one in fact to rebel against....but the box in the corner will still want to show endless games, talked about by boring blokes getting over excited..
So rebellion this year is in the form of various boxed sets.
All four seasons of George Gently are waiting as are the Poldark tapes...
I am ready! No rebellion is needed I’m afraid...this is just a symbolic female attempt to avoid past frustrations.
I’m sorry there will be no masculine voices to rebel against...but there are compensations!
