Aftermath!

I miss my brother in law during political upheavals. Fred was a civil servant at the heart of government. In fact he was attached to the foreign office before and during the Falklands war and his comments were wonderful. Not indiscreet so much as revealing and neither David or I would ever have repeated them .
But it did give me some small insight into what happened behind closed doors in Westminster.
Fred was witty. His stories were told with a wry grin and were very rarely critical...it was more insight into what made the politicians tick....especially those finding it difficult to have a female boss.
I would have loved to hear his take on the present goings on!
I suspect he would have liked Boris for the joy he brought to otherwise boring meetings....
None of the present cabinet appear to have much humour but maybe there are just too many women.
Females seem to treat the whole business of government far more seriously than their male counterparts.
I will not repeat any of his insights into Margaret Thatchers determination to go to war, especially as the foreign office had been told weeks earlier of the invasion as it was happening.
I miss Fred. On occasions like this his take on it would have been both witty and truthful...
As it is I look forward to the next PMs question time without the overgrown schoolboys appearance . Health experts everywhere are rejoicing that they have finally got rid of Jeremy Hunt from the NHS debates but despite his schoolboy looks I suspect that Boris may be a hard act to follow.
I just wish that I still had Fred's take on it all.
