By the end of the day people will be on the move. At some point during the evening of August Bank Holiday David used to grin and say
"They are on their way. Can you hear them? "
And they were...all the Bank holiday visitors had started the exodus, straight past our house....
September is the month for the golden oldies...of which I was once one.
There are less people on beaches once the children have gone back to school for obvious reasons...
I still have friends here, people who own homes on the Roseland.
And of course that is part of the problem. There is resentment at the high prices charged for houses which come up for sale.
Mostly my friends haven’t bought houses in the villages....
Two of them built a new house , a bricks and mortar job which now looks as though it’s been there for decades.
Another couple of friends bought log cabins which were a new development several years ago and was a choice I considered myself before buying my house in Portscatho.
They are very comfortable and have lovely views out over the sea, so they were good buys all those years ago...
The golden oldies will stay around during the Autumn and I enjoy the company of people I’ve known for decades!
None of them will move far today and their boats will be quiet too...the feeling of waiting is almost tangible.
By the end of the week the exodus will be well under way. Any cheering will be muted....mostly. But we will all be happy just the same!
Just one more thing to thank God for!
