Dentist needed.

Arghhhh....I broke a tooth last night. Only a part of the tooth actually. From the front it looks intact. It’s just a part of the back that came away...
It remains to be seen how this will affect either my appearance or my mastication.
But on waking this morning and finding that it wasn’t just a bad dream I have had time to carefully consider my options.
Going to the dentist is obviously indicated..but of late the only thing that gets me there is pain.
If it hurts I go.
The last time was a couple of years ago.
A complication is that I see my old dentist fairly frequently. He is now retired but comes quite frequently because he has a second home here. And we always go out.
I know what he would tell me to do...but it is the weekend and it’s certainly not an emergency.
It’s just another dammed annoyance connected with old age.
I have met old people whose teeth were gone...but mine are fine...mostly....
I shall see how it goes over the weekend.
It shouldn’t affect my eating I don’t think...it might just affect my smiling.....
But I have a quiet weekend...no plans , no outings , no services that I have to attend.
I can stay quietly at home especially as going out is not inviting at the moment...the wind looks rough...
So I’m already looking for excuses not to get to a dentist. Nothing unusual there...I’ve been doing it for years.
It’s just one of life’s weirdnesses that the man I go out with now in my old age was once my dentist.
I’ll see how it all goes over the weekend...thank goodness it’s the weekend...no rush...By Monday I will know what I need to do....apart from going into hiding
Arghhhh!

Three essential body systems that should never be neglected: eyes, feet and teeth. And my experience with a broken tooth suggests you will find the sharp edge a real nuisance worth the effort of getting seen to.
Do pluck up courage - in these days when it's so hard to get dental or medical attention, leaving it till you have no choice is not an option.
Prayers for a happy outcome x

Thanks for that....there’s nothing I can do till Monday anyway...they are all closed at the weekend...and it’s definitely not an emergency.

I presume that if the broken tooth was broken, you would seek an emergency dentist?

Not sure of how that works in Rural Cornwall, but here in North Kent, we have to go into London to find one, which is probably as difficult at a weekend given reduced transport services and a taxi isn't a cheap option.

And they are not providing NHS Services, only private, which costs £££;s. We have insurance, so not really an issue - just finding out which practice is open and getting there is.

I'm a fan of bonjella, which was used for babies teething, but numbs the gum and root and also has antiseptic properties. Perhaps if you find some, that will help until you can get to a dentist, which I feel is quite important, and infection could arise through an abcess if you are not careful.
