Moon landing?

I watched the film of us landing on the moon last night...and remembered.  My husband didn’t believe a word of it.

My first husband it is true was a natural sceptic on most things...he liked to debunk all sorts of things  but he definitely did not believe that man landed on the moon.  He played the clip of the landing to illustrate various points which I now can’t remember but according to him the whole thing was a mock up in a studio.

So yesterday watching the little bit of film, the proof of our landing my mind went back to some of his theories on the subject of mans mastery of space. He claimed it was all lies by the Americans to get one up on the Russians.   I didn’t believe this at the time but inevitably last night it did make me wonder...

David was a natural doubter and debunked everything...I mostly just listened. If I disagreed it would end up in a row.   It was better to just keep quiet.

Remembering his views on the moon landing though brought back several more ideas that he’d de bunked.   Women priests came to mind immediately.

He really didn’t think women would make good priests and although he knew that I had had a calling as a girl to the priesthood he very firmly dismissed the whole idea as a nonsense...that was not what women would be good at.  He had already been dead for several years when I was ordained. But I have to admit that on the day of ordination I did cast my mind back and hoped that from his cloud up there he was witnessing my joy and my wearing of the dog collar....

But as with the moon landing he probably wouldn’t have believed it...

I know that David was far from unique in his determination to cast doubts on most things in the news...but I did believe we really had landed on the moon.....

But now I find myself wondering.  Our attempts at mastering space seem to have died down.   It’s all gone very quiet out there.

When he was alive I never agreed with him on principle...but I learned to stay quiet mostly...but now I find some of his questioning and debunking has stayed with me.   Especially when I see shots of the moon landing.  Especially as we seem not to have been anywhere else for a very long time now!

Did we really get man up there?   And yes we did allow women into the church....and I wear my dog collar with pride.  That would make him laugh!

Off course we landed on the moon, more than once. And yes, Women were ordained as Priests and now Bishops in the CofE and Church in Wales, I am not sure about Roman Catholics, but there are some women, who have been ordained (irregularly) as Roman Catholic Priest and who were promptly kicked out. But once given, the seal of Ordination cannot be removed by man, as it is a gift from God.

As is the science and engineering that permitted a man to land on the moon, a feat which will be repeated soon if Richard Bransom and his ilk get their way.

What next? Resurrection? Oh, sorry, that was done, once and for all by Jesus and we have the Messiah, all was have to do is to convince the 99% of mankind that are not Christian to come alongside. Than his Kingdom might be truly be said to have come.
