Eating out.

Last night I found a new solution to a problem.  My appetite is now tiny.   I used to eat very well until a few months ago. Now I struggle to eat the normal amount of food placed in front of me in restaurants. I hate leaving food on my plate...so eating out has become a trial.  Sometimes I can offload food onto whoever I’m eating with but very often I am left with an embarrassing amount of food on my plate...
So last night the friend I was eating with hit upon a new idea. I explained to the waitress that I was unable to eat normal portions...so instead of a starter followed by a main course...could I please have two starters whilst my friend had a normal meal.   It worked!   I had soup followed by crab pate whilst he had a normal starter followed by the main course. So I didn’t come home feeling uncomfortably full. I could even manage a pudding..!
This solution wouldn’t suit everyone...I would have to explain to anyone else I ate out with..and I’m not sure it could be used on the Cunard Queens where everyone eats huge portions...but as a local way of going out with old friends it cuts out the embarrassing amount of food left on my plate....and no I have not considered taking a  dog to help out!
This period of summer visitors is now manageable .  Thank goodness.....though explaining it to some of my friends could be tricky!

Eating a starter as a main is something I often do- usually because of preference for what is on offer but also because of the smaller portion. You are in good company :)

I suspect that you are not the only one with a tiny appetite.

I adopted a low calorie, high protein diet some years ago when diagnosed with diabetes. It works, but eating out can be problematic as I am also a veggie.

I tend to stick to basic foods, without the items that I wouldn't eat, but if a plate is over the top, I will leave it and hope that the place serving will realise that not all people want their plates piled up.
