Out late last night I had a drive in the dark from one village to another . It’s only a month since I last did this journey at night when it was quiet and I only saw other cars occasionally. Last night it was very busy. Cars roaring along the dark roads demanded much concentration..
Cornwall is obviously full. This is clearly good news and the glorious weather is still with us this morning. The friends I have been with this week go home at the weekend and then I’ll resume my quiet life. ....until the next time they all arrive.
I am not complaining about any of this but last night I had to remind them that I am now over eighty. Gasps all round were very satisfactory as I realised that I was indeed the oldest member of the group. This is very weird....the absent members who have died were also younger than me....
I need some quiet time soon...after the weekend I’ll get it hopefully I just need to stop rushing around....spending some time at home should be possible after tonight when a meal in the local pub is planned. Because Cornwall is full right now we have had to book our table and someone else is doing the driving. Thank goodness.
On the radio this morning is a play about Peterlloo. This story of protesters being killed in Manchester in the last century has been part of my life since my grandad told me that one of his cousins had been killed by the men on horses. I produced a play about it when I was a young woman...it still feels relevant. and personal. So thats my morning sorted out....I shall stay quietly near a radio...thank goodness.
