My whole life is going through some odd changes right now. Some things I had forgotten all about become suddenly relevant in odd ways.
Yesterday I had several strange emails..But one of them grabbed my attention instantly. I remembered a similar one last year. It said I had not paid for my TV license. I was told quite recently that once you get to 75 you don’t have to buy a TV license. But here they were asking me to pay and threatening to cut me off if I didn’t. My first instinct was to reach for my money and I spent some time filling in the form. Then I remembered that after I’d paid it last year I was told I didn’t have to pay now I’m old! So I stopped.
I looked at it again and decided I needed to find out properly. I was told then on line not to fill in any more forms..TV was free for the over 75s. But I did pay it last year. I went no further with the payment but got reminded a couple of hours later...with the threat of not being able to watch the television if I failed to pay.
So more delving was called for...yes I had paid it last year so .I wondered where it had gone...I hoped that the money might have gone to the right place but I’m still not sure. A very brisk young woman asking me some questions, clearly thought I’d gone senile and got cross over a small point that I didn’t understand. The whole experience was unpleasant. I could have paid ...it would have been easier...but I didn’t. I’m not sure of the ramifications if any . But the email I got told me not to pay anyone any money if asked for it during the next few days.
Today was already going to be bad. I’m going to the dentist! If ontop of that I have also mistakenly paid out more money for something I didn’t need to I shall be convinced that I really am going senile... oh dear....

Please be careful, TV licencing do not nor can they threaten to cut you off. There are so many scams about that if you are not sure, please look the number up - don't use the number that comes in the email. Always treble check - so many people are getting caught out - it's a nasty world out there xx
Yes, definitely a scam. We pay our licence online and get an email prompt when the next payment is due, before they take the direct debit.
We then download a copy of the license and store it on a computer, ready to show in anyone turns up to say we don't have a license.
