Weird times!

Several weird things are happening both personally and nationally.   It is very odd that the comments on my blog are considerably longer than my words!

An email this morning is from Betty  Boothroyd. .   Now this is really weird....     When I lived in the north an invitation to Betty’s  victory party was delivered to my husband. There was only one problem with this. She didn’t hold her seat...it became one of those daft jokes for years..” He can’t come...he’ll be at Betty Bothroyds victory party “  became a sarcastic response to any requests I didn’t like.

As for where we are in this present mess we are living through, I see that our MPs have deliberated throughout the night...but I’m not sure whether any proper decisions were made apart from the statement that a general election is now being promised...or should that read threatened?

The date for this proposed election is in October when I unfortunately will be out of the country so my first job will be to apply for a postal vote because I will want to take part in this decision.

The feeling of it all being very weird at the moment is growing. Deal? No deal?   Brexit is now a swear word for many of us.      It has brought us to a confusing, unpleasant sense of disaster approaching...

Keeping in touch with yesterday’s events was easy on my iPad....where ever I went the situation in Parliament came with me....it is rivetting stuff but the feeling of doom just grows...  and this morning I am hearing senior Tories blaming the Labour Party for everything they have done themselves. Boris versus Corbyn is supposed to scare us into forgiving the Tory Party for this mess.   But it doesn’t.   Brexit is becoming a nightmare for us all....if there is a way through all this that  will bring us back to being a reasonably content country I am not sure where to find it......Labour versus Tory, with all the fringe groups  is a situation we all understood. Brexit has long been a swear word for many of us but just now the chaos involved in government is making most of us anxious. What the rest of the world is making of all this does not bear thinking about.  Prayers for peace is the best I can manage right now.

The current situation means that we are not being governed. We are taking part in a pantomime that seems to have no end. The figures involved are all the Evil ones, while the Good ones are keeping quiet with their heads down, allowing their leaders to fight it out with slanging matches in the public sphere.

Whatever happened to good manners and commonsense? Obviously, there were thrown out during the referendum and their absence has been felt since.

I don't want to be governed by either of the main parties, they are as bad as one another. And the fringe parties like the SNP have one eye on Scottish Independence, and what they can extract from the Union before they leave.

The gremlins are well and truly embedded in Parliament and the wider public, many of whom are hopelessly divided and at each others throats.

I am anxious because this is a situation where you feel powerless unless you can cast a vote to get rid of the whole shebang and start again. But with the first past the post system, most votes are wasted. With proportional representation your vote can count more than once.

So, what if we end up with a hung parliament with horse trading between parties to govern, anything would be better than the current mess - we need a coalition in the national interest to get Brexit done and dusted, whichever way it goes. I have no issue with staying or going, I just want it settled. Totally Fed up in North Kent.
