What next?

Well! Yesterday was a day to remember ...... for all the wrong reasons...I found it impossible to switch the news off because what was coming through the air waves was riveting. So all the other things that I was doing took place against a background of Parliamentary debate.

Unfortunately this meant that I didn’t get some personal stuff done...and worse I only remembered it during the night. At around four in the morning I got out of my bed, to go downstairs to look for a vital bit of paper. I did find it filed in the place I expected to so after a quick shuffle through several files I came back to bed fairly happy that my world is still reasonably well organised.

Which is more than can be said of this weird government. Most of the problem is linked to the fact that our present incumbent has told lies about various things over the years.   How on earth can we trust a man well known for saying what he thinks people want to hear?

Come back Mrs May...I now see why she stayed in post for so long because this aftermath is appalling. I enjoyed the sight of her sitting with several old colleagues , smiling...the relief of her not being in charge of this mess was very apparent.

There is no sign that Boris is going to resign....but surely the trust essential for stable decision making has now gone. I suspect more resignations may follow because why would anyone now trust our present PM?   Unfortunately the alternative is not very inspiring either. I keep hearing people say Corbyn is a Marxist.....and I don’t know wether he is or not.but he’s not the strong attractive person who needs to confront the Prime Minister weekly! Imagine what could happen if a more verbally  gifted person was in place.

So where are we now?   Up the proverbial creek?    It’s going to be another riveting day.....

It does seem that the enemy camp (Labour, Lib Dems and SNP) has got its act together. They humiliated the PM in Parliament over the NO Deal Brexit bill, which is likely to pass the Lords tomorrow.

The cowardice of Mr Corbyn in putting off a General Election is breath taking, given that he has been calling for one for months. But his allies are on board, including the Tories who had the Whip withdrawn after voting against the government.

We need the election before the end of October, because if it is after than, we will exit the EU without a deal, whatever the Government or opponents do.

I find it puzzling that the MP's who say that they represent the people who elected them, are completely ignoring their electors and voting along lines that are had to reconcile with their individual manifestos.

My greatest fear at an election is the Brexit Party, full of extremists on the right wing, get a foothold in parliament, or even sharing power with the Tories, with the spectre of Mr Farage as either PM or Deputy PM. My worst nightmare realised.

Contrary to popular expectations, 2 only labour MP's voted with the Tories, where was the sensible middle ground labour members that the media keep talking about?

We need Europe, but they don't need us. That is quite obvious. If there is a no-deal exit, they will be 39 billion pounds short on their budget. I wonder how they will view their hard line refusal to negotiate when that happens.

If there is any further delay, people will be even more divided than now, how do we get social cohesion in that scenario. Trust in politicians is at an all time low, and the public will demonstrate that in any election. There could be wholesale defections from traditional parties with extremists from the the left and right getting into government.

Proportional representation is sorely needed to sort out this shambles, but we won't see that until we get a government fit for purpose.

Bah, Humbug.

My understanding (in so far as anyone can make head or tail of all this) is that Corbyn and co will only back the election they all want if and when legislation is firmly passed preventing the PM from gaming the date to after No Deal has happened - thereby negating any point in having the contest, and leaving a new Labour government with chaos (up to and including violent disorder) to sort out and conveniently shoulder the blame for.

At the moment a large group of expelled Tory MPs with nothing to lose (having already been banned from standing next time, unless as independents)is perhaps of more use to the various opposition groups.

(One can hardly call them parties - just a variegated garden of squabbling sects).

I'm increasingly drawn to St Aidan's prayer at the sack of Bamburgh that I read about the other day.

"Lord, look what they are doing."
