Refuse collection!

I am awake early and will be dressing soon.    Monday morning is refuse collection day...and the van arrives  at around eight o’clock so everything has to be put out on Sunday . In this small group of houses are several homes without the right containers....no one knows where they have gone to but naturally people suspect that previous home owners have taken them with them.  I am not sure if the correct containers could be asked for from the council who collect our rubbish but so far my neighbours haven’t done that, mostly because they use mine!

Last week I go it wrong. I put out my empty bottles in the correct box and realised later that it was the wrong week so out I went to bring my box back in.   I couldn’t move it easily because my neighbours had filled it with empty beer bottles. Well!

This made me very cross.  It was then  too heavy to lift and I could not just leave it outside for a week.  So I got out my wheelbarrow to move it all back inside and then I left the beer bottles on my neighbours garden. This was childish of me but my neighbours had let their home for the summer so the strangers in residence had simply taken their lead from me with all their beer bottles. Carting them all back took time and effort and my new neighbours were less than amused by my attempts to get rid of the thirty or so beer bottles I’d been left with.

So yesterday I once again put out my box with my empty wine bottles in it. I have no way of knowing if they were joined by the beer bottles but I do know they have already been collected....the van came very early ...before half past seven..which is why I’m up blogging at this stage... I have yet to go out to retrieve my box...but judging from the sounds,  they have gone....fingers crossed!

It’s a silly thing to blog about but it is on my mind...one more problem of old age and putting everything out always takes place on Sunday...often with me in my dog collar.   As the collection is very early I have no choice but to spend Sunday afternoon sorting it out! Not the ideal time but there really is no choice.

Since moving to this house all my neighbours have changed and  no one else seems to have all the right containers...perhaps the ones who left took their boxes with them but somehow I get cross at finding my box full of empty beer bottles...it’s bad enough holding my empty wine containers....   so being cross on Monday morning is all part of life’s rich pattern , plus it’s also the day when my cleaner arrives..so I’m up early , dressed and ready!   It’s raining outside....I hope there are no beer bottles waiting out there for me!

Surely the council would provide new containers for your naughty neighbours if they asked?

They have a cheek using yours. And the waste collectors must think that you lead a dissipated life with all those empties?
