I suppose I should have expected one of today’s headlines....Andrea Leadsom intends to try to remove the speaker of the house from the office of Speaker. Over the years Mr Bercows future in this job has been the subject of debate several times. But he has always made it through intact. During the latest house troubles he has stood firm during times of great emotional turmoil and many of us would be very sad to see him go. He had I think intended to resign anyway until the Brexit disaster brought him back to centre stage.
Once a Conservative MP he remains unattached to any party in order to maintain the appearance of fairness in his house business dealings. He has not been opposed in his seat in order to ensure his position in parliament but now Mrs Leadsom wants him out...stating that it’s time to have an impartial Speaker again.
During all the recent Brexit intemperance in the house I have been cheered by the sight and sound of cries for order and his imposition of it on a very over excited house. In all the mess imposed upon us by Brexit he has been a very reassuring voice heard shouting for order in the midst of all the angst. His presence in the house gives me the security of knowing that no one in government can misuse their power whilst he is in place.
He has stymied several attempts by our Prime Minister to get all his own way in the present Brexit debacle and I would be very sorry to see him go as the only sensible voice in the hysterical atmosphere when ever Parliament is sitting.
Just now we need the reassurance of a familiar voice maintaining the business of government. I hope Mrs Leadsom fails in her endeavour.

There are those who would say he has abused his power. You clearly read and listen to different sources of information to me. We are all entitled to our opinions.
Mr Bercow is a divisive figure in himself. He did nothing to help Mrs May, and in fact seemed hostile towards her. His attitude towards women is indicated by the row over him calling Andrea Leadson a "Stupid Woman" which was a whispered aside, but heard by some. He denied it, but in this age of fake truth, who can believe him.
He is glorying in the power that his position gives him, and has seemed ready to assist the opposition in many ways to get some movement during the brexit debate. His declarations against anything that he doesn't like, compromises his supposed impartiality.
He has been in position long enough. He announced his retirement several years ago, but decided to stay on due to Brexit. I am sure there are more than one Deputy Speaker available who could do the job so, perhaps he should back off in the controversial debates and allow someone else to officiate.
And I don't see why he should have an unlimited time in the role. Many official appointments are time limited. His should be no different.
Yes, he has been prominent in the current crisis, but his decision making standing on his position, rather than the needs of Parliament and the country seem to me to be flawed. Time for him to go.
