Aftermath?

So much for forward planning! I’m not sure that anything I planned for today will actually happen. From my windows I see that it’s much better than yesterday. Dennis may have swept over us during the night. It’s certainly not as bad as it was. But I am supposed to be eating at one of our hotels today. This plan hatched last week involved my being picked up and driven along the coast to a hotel perched high on a cliff a few miles away. I suspect that several phone calls will be needed before I know what is going on. But right now I’m not holding my breath! I slept well and am not aware of anything happening during the night but as yet I’ve not been downstairs. Just now I’m sitting up in bed listening....no sounds at all. The road outside is eerily quiet. I am not aware of any traffic at all...so may be there’s a tree down somewhere...or we are all staying quietly at home. So Far! At least I don’t have to worry about getting to church. I am happy to leave that to the church wardens. in the past I parked my car across the lane leading to one of the churches which was closed after being flooded. But it is eerily quiet out this morning....still no sound of traffic. Well, first things first...I must get up and see what is going on downstairs. The way I get local information is often via Facebook...helpful information about ferries etc often appears there...so we shall see. I am awake...I’ve pinched myself... So ...oh dear....I must see what I can find out....now.

So Ok.....I’ve been down and all is well down there...I’ve now heard a car going past so some of the road is open...I am now sitting up in bed drinking a coffe. All seems well with my world. So Far!

When you see the top of a sail passing you on the road you will know the reason for the apparent quiet.
Seriously, this weather is best avoided if at all possible.
Today the rain and wind are not quite as bad as last week but swimming looks a better prospect than walking.
Luckily i takea taxi to church and get a lift home so have a fairly easy journey (for me anyway).
If you have any influence with the Almighty, perhaps a hint that some dry sunny days would be good?
Stay safe Jean

I am late to the party here. It seems that the South West was hit quite badly, while here in North Kent the worst I know of is some tiles on the Church Roof that have slipped and we had five new leaks for our services yesterday. When things improve we will get our roofer up to put the tiles back. At home, the worst we had was our wheelie bins being blown over, or blown down the garden. Now, securely parked in a corner out of the wind.

This morning we have had some light rain, but the forecast is for a mildish day with sunshine and showers. I have a blood test to get to at a hospital some distance away, so will drive carefully to get there. My spouse is on a week off, getting her annual leave in before the end of the year. Her intention is to stay put, as she eyes the wind blown garden, which needs a bit of TLC from her.
